The Isle of Wyrms charity fundraising festivals are themed events inviting the collaboration of fantasy avatar artists and neighboring communities. This “unique collaboration” features displays from the most recent themed festival, reflecting collaborations and contributions from Isle of Wyrms avatar artist Daryth Kennedy, fantasy avatar artist Atea Aeon, festival artistic director Skylarian Isachenko, and members of the Isle of Wyrms citizens group and neighboring communities.

Each festival has a unique theme during which the entire collection of isles is transformed with unique builds, featuring live music performances and community games.

The charity auction raises a significant portion of the funds to benefit St. Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital in the United Kingdom, a hospital specializing in small wildlife rescue and rehabilitation. The Isle of Wyrms community has a focus on raising funds for hedgehog rescue.

The Isle of Wyrms, established in the early stages of Second Life, is a vibrant community of dragons, gryphons, tinies and other fantasy avatars. Four times yearly the Isles citizens and their neighbors gather at three day long festivals to raise funds for charity.

A significant portion of the funds are raised from a charity auction, in which dragon, gryphon, and hedgehog avatars by Daryth Kennedy, as well as her dragon familiar shoulder pet, are auctioned alongside fantasy humanoid avatars such as faeries, drows, and nekos by Atea Aeon, and furry avatars by Sylver Bu.

Proceeds from the auction benefit St. Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital in the United Kingdom, a hospital specializing in small wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.

Special thanks to the Isle of Wyrms citizens featured in the photographs on this page: Daryth Kennedy, Ayla Wemyss, Georgia McDonnell, Gray Fang, Bernadette Moody, Veritude Moody, and the majestic Skylarian Isachenko.

The Isle of Wyrms Summer Festival

My favorite community in Second Life is the wonderful dragon world of the Isle of Wyrms.  I am a longtime admirer of the extraordinary avatar artist Daryth Kennedy, who is the founder of the isles and creator of the extraordiary Isle of Wyrms dragon avatars.  Every summer around this time, the Isles host a birthday ball for Daryth as part of a 3 day summer festival. All proceeds from the festival benefit St. Tiggywinkle’s Wildlife Animal Hospital in the UK.

Here is the transcript of Onix’s speech just before the wonderful concert by the lovely Phoebeann Theas:

Welcome to the 2009 Summer Festival! We’re off to a great start this year and I’d like to thank everyone who have put in a lot of effort to make all of this possible. Our Guardians, Ambassadors, Artisans, Mentors, Guides, and Volunteers… and all of you our Citizens and regular patrons too. ^.^ Thank you all.

This year, as we have in prior years we are proud to dedicate our festival fund raising to our featured charity St.Tiggywinkles Animal hospital in the UK. St.Tiggies is one of the most active and busy animal treatment centers for nursing and caring for wild animals in their part of the world. They are instrumental in the treatment and release of injured and endangered wild life including hedgehogs. Daryth Kennedy chose them as her focus charity because she adores Hedgehogs and raises domesticated hedgehogs herself in RL. All procedes raised from this festival will go to St.Tiggywinkles. If you’d like to add your own donation simply locate one of the many jars scattered throughout the Isle of Wyrms community.

Today we’ve held the first of many Live concert performances starting off big with Mankind Tracer. There will be more wonderful events over the next few days. Right after this opening ceremony we will continue on into the Birthday Ball with PhoebeAnn Theas performing for us live! It is Daryth Kennedy’s RL birthday! (Happy Birthday Daryth!) If you are new to our island community Daryth is the owner of Isle of Wyrms and co-founder of our community here. Without her there would be no IoW. ^.^ Daryth is the famed creator of Second Life’s premiere full sized dragon avatars. Her dragons were made so that the end user could modify and color their avatar and modify them so that we can all become our own dragon. Our imagination is the limit, and with her great work leading the way we’ve built a great community with her work as it’s foundation.

Avatar sales support the community and pay for it’s expenses, and the community likewise supports Daryth’s business, and it all paves the way for charity fundraising festivals such as this one.

As a community we have much to be proud of. Isle of Wyrms has some of the most creative and inspiring people I’ve ever met. You are all fantastic and wonderful people an I am glad to be a part of it all. You all have made the Isle of Wyrms a great and fun place to be. I can honestly say that this is what the founders of Second Life had in mind when it began and I hope that our presence inspires other communities and continues to grow and serve as an example for all of SL to follow.
